What will you paint?
Painted pebbles are fun to make and can be used to add colour to your garden, balcony, windowsill and plant pots. You could paint friendly animal or insect markers – bees and ladybirds work really well. You could paint your initials to mark out your planting. Or maybe you could paint the flower or veg that you’re growing.
What you need

Medium-Sized Pebbles or Stones

Paintbrushes

Pencil

Coloured Permanent Pens or Paint

PVA Glue or Water-based Varnish
How to Make
- Wash and dry your pebbles. You can use stones that you have found in the garden, or buy round, flat pebbles from DIY shops and garden centres.
- Draw your design onto your pebble with a pencil. If it’s too dark or rough to draw on, you can plan your design onto some paper instead.
- Colour in your design using paints or permanent pens. Leave it to dry thoroughly.
- When the paint is dry, take a clean brush and carefully cover the pebble in PVA glue or water-based outdoor varnish to make it weatherproof. Leave it to dry.
