When to Grow
Cornflowers are easy to grow UK native wildflowers and will give your garden the most wonderful blue flowers in the summer. They like to grow in well-drained soil in full sun. Sow from March to May and they will flower from June to September. Sow cornflowers next to golden marigolds or red poppies to make them look really bright. Why not pick some cornflowers when they are flowering to put in a vase?

How to Grow
- Cornflowers can be sown straight into the ground where they are going to flower, so make sure the space you are going to sow is weed free, by using a trowel to remove the weeds.
- Rake the soil to a fine tilth (so it’s a fine, crumbly soil) and make some drills in the soil, about 12mm deep. A drill is a channel or groove in the soil, where you will sow your seed. The rows should be spaced about 30cm apart.
- Water the soil before sowing and allow the drill to drain. Sprinkle the seed in drill thinly and cover with soil. Mark your seeds with a plant label.
- As your seeds grow, if the plants are crowded, you can thin them out to about 10-15cm apart.
